What Are You Worshipping?

In past blogs, I have been reminding you that part of your identity lies in the truth that you are a priest! You are to function in The Church as a priest.

1 Peter 2:9 says this, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.”

As a priest, there are certain things that you get to do. These are privileges, not duties. Because of Jesus, you have been made a priest who gets to do three things:

At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.” Deuteronomy 10:8

Last week, I talked about carrying the ark of the covenant. I encourage you to go back and be encouraged with that by clicking HERE!

Today, I want to talk about how as a priest, you get to “stand before the Lord to minister”. Wow. Just think about that. In the days of old, no one but the High Priest was able to stand before the Lord. But because of Jesus, the way was made, the veil was torn, so that all may enter in. (Hebrews 10:19-22) Do you know what a gift that is to you? The accessibility to Father God is such an incredible gift! The people of old would be amazed at such allowance. Let us not take that for granted. You have access to Father 24/7! And that access is there for you to enter in, and minister to God.

How often worship services, prayer, and our personal lives are not about ministering to God, but rather ministering to self. They are actually often dominated by self. We want the singers to sing a certain way or a certain song. We only pray to ask God for something we need. Our self confidence is only as good as our next “like” on Instagram. We live in a world that is consumed by self-gratification. And yet, as a priest, it is not about ministering to self, but ministering to God.

When you hear this word “worship”, I have heard it described as “worthship”….in other words, you worship where you place the most worth. Again, the world is dominated by worshiping self, yet God is the only One worthy of any worship.

Worshipping self is the DNA of Satan.

Corporate worship services are not for the entertainment of man. It is not a “feel

good” for you. Boy, has that gotten twisted!

As a priest, you worship and minister to God, your Father. He is the priority. He is the only One who you desire to give your adoration and your allegiance.

So what does ministering to God as a priest look like? Well, I’ll give you a few from the Bible:

-unwavering trust (Proverbs 3:5-6)

-delightful obedience (Psalm 40:6-8)

-intimate praise (Psalm 22:3)

-acting justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly (Micah 6:8)

These are beautiful in the sight of your Father! These things minister to His heart!

So the question now stands before you: what are you worshipping? What are you placing more “worthship” on than Father God? And if He alone deserves your worship, how are you doing in that arena? Ask Holy Spirit to reveal, so that you can repent, and begin walking in the fullness of this gift of priesthood.
