What Are You Carrying?

Last week, I wrote about the truth that if you know Jesus as Savior, your High Priest, then you are a priest! You are an important part of what Jesus is building in His Church! You are to function as a priest!

So what do priests do?

Deuteronomy 10:8 tells us: “At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.”

As a priest, you get to carry the presence of God wherever you go! The Levitical priests carried the ark of the covenant, which was the dwelling place of God. They carried God’s presence. You get to do that too.

Think about this: in the Old Testament they were only visited by angels or by preincarnate Jesus. They experienced the presence of God through visitation. In the New Testament, Emmanuel, God came to live with us through Jesus and in us by the person of the Holy Spirit. Christ in you, the hope of glory! (Colossians 1:27) We now experience the presence of God through habitation!

1 Corinthians 3:16 and 6:19 tell us that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit! You are a spiritual housing of Jesus which means that everywhere you go becomes a place where someone can meet with God.

Just as the priests carried the Ark of the covenant, you carry the Presence! Have you ever met some people who carry peace? Or joy? That’s the Presence! That’s the fruit of the Spirit! If people who know you were asked, what would they say you carry?

When God brings people across your path, it is an opportunity for God to inhabit that moment. That’s why 2 Corinthians 5:20 says that we are His ambassadors!

What would happen in your life, in your sphere of influence, in your church, in your community, and in the world, if everywhere Christians went became an opportunity for people to meet God, because you knew that you carried God’s presence wherever you go?

When you discover Jesus as High Priest, you recover that you are a priest: a priest who carries the Presence wherever you go!

May we be a people who move from understanding this conceptually to it becoming a reality! Amen!
