Under Construction

Have you ever been a part of building a house? It is complicated and takes a lot of timing and skill to get it built. It takes diligence and effort to do it the right way. And then, on top of that, how about the outside of your house? The landscaping?

Today, Proverbs 24 spoke about this very thing in verse 3-4 and later in verse 27.
“A house is built by wisdom,
and it is established by understanding;
by knowledge the rooms are filled
with every precious and beautiful treasure.” (Vrs. 3-4)
Now think about what Jesus called a house: YOU! You are a temple of the Holy Spirit! YOU!!! (1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 6:19-20)
So, in that context, your spiritual house, your heart (mind, will and emotions) will be built by wisdom and established with understanding. Not our own wisdom and understanding (because Proverbs 3:5-6 says we are not to lean on our own understanding) but the wisdom of God and the understanding He gives us as we walk in relationship with Him and listen to His voice!
He goes on to say in verse 5 that wisdom brings power and strength!
When we built our house, they had to get the ground ready. They brought in dirt to build the land up for the perfect setting for the house.
Proverbs 24:27 says “Finish the outdoor work and get your fields ready; after that, build your house.”
What would happen if we didn’t have a good foundation with which to build our house? Your foundation for your Spiritual house is the Bible. The Word of God.
This verse says you have to get your fields for sowing and reaping (to make a living and be able to feed you and your family) ready first and then build the house. So God is more concerned with your sowing and reaping than He is with your building your house. He wants you foundationally sound and missionally ready.
He wants you foundationally sound and missionally ready.
As Christians, we must be concerned with scattering the seeds of LOVE and encouraging truth to those around us, not just trying to build up our own selves spiritually. While both are important, I think He knows our selfish propensity to just take care of ourselves and not care for those around us.
So ask the Lord to show you your mission field. Ask Him to reveal where you can scatter seeds. Jesus said, “The harvest is plentiful but the LABORERS are few.” You can be one. You can share the love and light of Jesus wherever you go.
“A just balance is His delight”. Proverbs 11:1 Maybe we need to evaluate if we are a bit out of balance, spending more time preoccupied with self and our own “house” than we are with those around us. Selah
This world has set this culture up to be self-focused. Many churches have followed them and are teaching their members to focus on self, and self-help. Jesus was clearly the opposite.
Jesus said outdoor work first, then indoor work. Holy Spirit, help us to not get those two backwards and help us find the balance.
