The Antagonist of Holiness: making holes

Holiness is to be wholly and completely surrendered to the Lord Jesus Christ in every area of your life. But we have an antagonist, an enemy, who opposes, struggles against, and competes as your adversary in an attempt to make you unholy. Just like a villain in every Disney movie we have seen as children or every literary piece in high school, there is an enemy who will stop at nothing to see you fail.

Why doesn't the enemy want you holy? 1) because holiness draws people to Jesus, 2) because holiness draws Christians up higher, above the chaos of this world and the enemy has no influence on them anymore, and 3) because holiness brings more anointing into your life to empower us to overcome the enemy and his strategies on the earth! He hates us living a holy life! It is a major threat to his kingdom!

4 Ways the Enemy Trips us up:

  1. Complacency: he waits on us to get complacent, lazy, tired, stressed, or hungry. That is why Ephesians 4:28 tells us to "make no place for the devil".

  2. Compromise: he throws out things like "did God really say..." to tempt us to doubt.

  3. Covenant Ignorance: he does not want us to know the implications of our covenant relationship with God as His daughters who have been given everything we need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3)

  4. Compulsive: he tempts us to act impulsively until it becomes habitually compulsive.

The 3 Most Dangerous Words for Christians:

"IT IS HARMLESS."

"Don't be unaware of the devil's schemes." 2 Cor. 2:11

"Guard your heart for out of it is the wellspring of life." Proverbs. 4:23

There was a poem I read years ago that started out talking about a man that walks down a road and fell in a hole. The poem continues through many different scenarios of this man going down the same street and for different reasons keeps falling in the hole. Finally, after numerous fallings, the poem ends with the man taking another road.

Thats what holiness is: holiness is avoiding the holes that the enemy puts in your path so that you can be wholly God's in every way.
