Sister, Sister!

Writer's picture: Jena ForehandJena Forehand

I grew up with sisters. I am the middle of three girls, and oh my goodness how my parents must have had their hands FULL! Though we are all very different, there are some things that we agree on and there is not doubt that they would have my back if I ever needed them.

When my daughter was growing up, she didn't have a sister, but she loved to watch Sister , Sister, a show on Disney about twin sisters and all of their shenanigans!!! With every episode, two things always emerged: they were always there for each other, and they grew gracefully and graciously together.

When you hear people in the Church talk about discipleship and mentoring, it may seem old fashioned, irrelevant, or too time consuming. In reality, it's about:

– personally and intentionally investing in women around you.

– consecrating time each week to talk about life and the Bible.

– Ioving accountability.

– locking arms with other women to pull each other along in our relationships with God.

When God told Abraham that he was going to bless him so he could be a blessing, you will find it to be true. As you see your sisters in Christ growing, as you encourage each other, it is exciting, inspiring and motivating!!!

Let's debunk a few untruths about this. Developing and leading a group of sisters does not require you to perfect. You don't have to be older, nor do you have to be "seasoned". You do not have to have a seminary degree, nor do you have to do some over the top planning , decorating, etc.

All you have to do is create a loving environment for women to grow together and then, go together and make a difference.

And I am confident that every one of us can do that.

Join me in creating a sisterhood across this nation of women walking with God together!

Let’s choose to make an impact for eternity right now, in the people God has placed in front of us. Start praying now, asking God to reveal to you who you are to lock arms with. I always say "Find Your Five", but God may have a few more for you or maybe only one. Seek Him and ask. He will definitely show you! Then, simply ask them if they would like to join you in going deeper in relationship with God.

Imagine for just a minute, the impact that you could have on someone else! Imagine the impact they would have on you! Imagine if each one of us did this! How our world would change! How encouraged and strengthened we would be!! And imagine what it would be like if then, those you invested in, started walking with other women themselves? We would be a part of a multiplication effect that far outreached anything we could possibly think or imagine!

For the next several weeks you will be hearing from us about what sisterhood means to us, and hope you will join in on the conversation! We would love for you to join us in building a sisterhood of growing together across this nation and beyond! If you want to know how, just fill out the contact form and we will get you plugged in!

Has anyone ever become a sister, sister to you?

What kind of impact did they have on your life?

I too am the middle sister of three girls. I love my sisters and I am thankful for our relationships. God has also blessed me with wonderful sisters in Christ ranging in age from 20's to 90's, and I learn and grow in Him so much from all of them. We have walked through storms together, holding one another up through prayer, speaking His truths, and lots of listening. So, so thankful and blessed for each one and God's perfect timing.

Anna, what a beautiful testimony to the gift of true sisters whether by blood or by Spirit (or both!)!!! Trying times doesn’t mean me ditch the friend, we stretch and grow!!! Thank you for that reminder!

I grew up being the middle of 3 sisters, having sisters was fun but also trying at times! We have grown so close to each other over the years and I’m so very thankful for that. Seeing my sisters love the Lord like I do just gives us an even deeper bond that no man can break! I am thankful also for my sister friends, one that has been such an inspiration to me even when I was trying to be one for her. I just love seeing Gods plan unfold right before my eyes! Thank you Jena for sharing what the Lord has placed on your heart again.
