This past weekend was our annual Together 2023. It was such a sweet intimate time with Jesus and our spouses. His Presence changes everything.
I had the opportunity to speak and knew the Lord had told me to speak on holiness and the heart: the purity of your heart, how to share your heart, and the importance of guarding your heart.
The more I studied and the more I taught, the more I realized what a gift it is to your spouse for you to guard your own heart.
Guarding Your Heart Guards Your Marriage
“Guard your heart; it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23) “Out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34)
Here’s the truth: The health of your heart is determined by what is housed in it.

When you guard your heart, you become very careful about what you allow into it. That protection becomes a protection for your marriage. What you have diligently put in and intentionally kept out will determine what overflows onto your marriage relationship.
The Bible teaches us to guard our mouths, guard our eyes, guard our ears, guard our thoughts, and guard our feet.
To “guard” means “to protect from danger; to watch over”
If I am careful to protect and watch over what I allow to enter my heart, my heart will be pure, and my spouse will then experience the authentic purity of my heart.
So let me encourage you today to take really good care of your own heart, because in doing so, you take care of your marriage.
