Morning Ears

I think everybody would say that they have a morning routine. You may get up, wash your face, grab a cup of coffee, get ready, and head out for the day. We might even say that we include prayer and worship on our drive in or we read a Scripture for the day on an app of some sort.

All of that is great and good. But without God's presence, without Him being brought in, invited, beheld, and longed for, it is empty, routine, and powerless.

His Presence Makes The Difference

Isaiah was a prophet who wrote about both creation and when God would create a new heaven and a new earth. He wrote so much about the glory of God...His presence.

Here's what he says about our mornings:

"He (God) awakes me morning by morning; awakens my ears to listen like one being taught. The Sovereign Lord has opened my ears." Isaiah 50:4-5

Have we forgotten that every day we are alive is a gift given by God, for God? That He is the one who wakes us up? And that He wakes us up because He wants to speak with us? He wants to give us revelation?

Isaiah 55:1-3 says this, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me;

listen, that you may live."

Jesus is calling us to be a people who will get still, get quiet, and listen. Jesus wants to speak to you about your day. Jesus wants to offer you His promises from His Word that will affect your day and will satisfy you like nothing else ever will.

Full people don't go looking for what will satisfy. Hungry people go looking for something to satisfy. And quite frankly, the world and the devil will offer you all kinds of things to satisfy. But if you are already satisfied with and in Jesus, this world has nothing to offer you. And once you've tasted of the presence of Jesus with you and in you, the only thing you hunger for is more of Him.

People filled with Jesus, only hunger for more of Him.

Oh that we might be a people who would spend our time and money on more of Jesus. More of His Presence. The deeper places that will only satisfy our deepest longings.

May I encourage you to change up your morning routine. Awaken with these words, "Good Morning, Father. This is a day You have made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. My life is not my own, I have been bought with a price and so I will honor you today with my body. You have awakened me to listen as one being taught. So I give you my ears and my attention, and I tell you that I am ready to listen to You today. I come to You and ask You to fill me to overflowing for Your glory. In Jesus' mighty name I ask, amen."

You are loved,

Jena
