“I have my WORD, and I don’t like it!”

a new perspective on your WORD

Sometimes, we want to know our WORD for the year, and then when we get it, we are not so sure it’s the one we wanted! I mean, we are like, “Lord, I’ll take joy if it’s all the same to You!” But when He gives you patience or perseverance, we are thinking, “Can I give that WORD back??? I don’t like or want that WORD,  because it implies that the year will be difficult.” The truth is, it may not mean that at all! You must SIT IN YOUR WORD with the Father, and let Him reveal to you what the WORD means.

the Spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know Him better.”

One of my dear friends, Angel (and yes, she is one!) received her WORD for the year, and texted me, “I have my WORD, and I don’t like it!” The Lord had me respond, “Not sure what you WORD is, but I can promise you that it is even more than you think it means and may even mean something totally different….your WORD with a twist!

Here’s what the Lord revealed to her:

1) He gave her her WORD and she defined it:

My WORD for 2018

PURGE-“to rid (someone) of an unwanted feelings, memory, or condition, typically giving a sense of release.”

Rid, cleanse, clear, purify, remove, dismiss, eradicate, clean out, evacuate

2) Then, the Lord gave her physical things that she could identify with, to help her better understand her WORD:

-Just like when you clean your fridge of rotten veggies, we must clean your mind of guilt, shame, and unforgiveness

-Just like a clogged pipe in your bathroom sink, you get rid of the nasty debris that is stopping up the drain. Get rid of what is blocking you from hearing from God and receiving and operating fully in Him.

3) Then, He gave her a Scripture for His Word about her WORD:

My Verse:

“He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” John 15:2

4) Then, He took her on a journey of discovery about her WORD:

This led me to look at the biblical perspective of pruning.

“Correct, effective pruning is different than just “shearing” the tree to look like a lollipop. There are two basic types of branches that need to be removed. The first is a branch that is growing the wrong direction. These branches rub the other branches and can cause disease. They also block out the sunlight that is needed for flower buds to form.

The other type of branch to prune is a “sucker” branch that shoots out beneath the graft. These branches are incredibly dangerous to the life of the tree. They will draw all of the strength and energy from the tree into themselves, and the tree will often die—but only above the graft, which is where the blooms grow.

Hebrews 12 tells us that the Father disciplines the children He loves. We picture that as the proverbial “spanking,” or punishment. In reality, the word discipline has the same root as the word disciple. Our Father loves us so much that He wants to disciple us—and sometimes He uses pruning to do just that.

He prunes the “branches” of our lives that are growing the wrong way. He prunes the branches that are growing from beneath the “graft,” sprouting out of our flesh. This pruning is not done to hurt us or punish us. He is simply pruning us to make us more like His Son. He lovingly disciples us to look and act like Jesus. How deeply He loves us! He loves us enough to prune branches that have some blooms—in order that we can have many blooms.” ~Charisma Magazine, Spirit Led Women~

5) Then, she responded to the Father about her WORD:

My Prayer:

Oh Lord, thank you that you search me and know my innermost thoughts. You remind me that I am to live a life that points others to you. I acknowledge that I need to operate in the Holy Spirit and not in my flesh. I realize that I can only do this through purging myself of all that is not of you, of all the “stuff” and relationships that I have placed before my relationship with you. Thank you for never leaving me nor forsaking me. This is your promise to me that I am not alone in this process, that you are right here with me. Father, forgive me for my disobedience and increase my faith. May I not fear stepping out in this increased faith. May I have boldness and recognize my Christ-given authority to speak your word in confidence. Oh Lord, may my desire to know you more never be quenched. Grow me Lord and use me to reach others to come and surrender themselves to receive your love. Thank you Lord.

I am excited for Angel and her WORD because lots of fruit is coming and none will be wasted! The Father is ridding her of the branches that are taking nourishment from her, but not producing fruit! That way, the fruit that comes from her will be great!!! Her WORD is actually an incredible promise!!!

So, if you got a WORD for your year that didn’t “thrill” you, SIT IN IT with the Father. You may be surprised about what He has to say about it!

  1. Honestly, I got a word I wasn’t too “excited” about again this year too. However, last year “Surrender” was my Word and surrendering things and people and branches and my wants to Him was hard. Yet praise the Lord, every branch I’ve surrendered I am seeing fruit! I’m tasting the goodness of the Lord! This year I kept getting “gratefulness”. I kept telling the Lord, I know about being grateful. It’s what helped lift me out of the pit of depression and anxiety. Give me something better God!” But I kept getting it. I felt as though He is saying I want you to keep being Grateful so that when I give you more fruit you will remain grateful! You will keep your eyes on Me and only Me! “No matter what you do, do in the name of Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the father through Him!” Col. 3:17 thanks Sisters Jena and Angel!!! I am grateful for you and your prayers and for you taking me deeper!!!

    • I love this, Terri, and I am certain that God will reveal this incredible depth to gratefulness and its connection to deeper levels of relationship with Him. I can’t wait to see what He reveals!!!I love you!
