As we enter a new year, we certainly have dreams and goals that we want to accomplish. Some women create a “bucket list” while others write out goals with specific deadlines over the course of the year. Many of us have had New Year’s resolutions and have seen nothing become of them, leaving us disillusioned about making any new ones for this year. We either found that they put too much pressure on us, or got lost in the busyness of our lives, and we were left feeling like failures.
Here’s what has often happened to me: there was this HUGE gap between my aspirations and my achieving of them. I had all these God-given dreams, and more vision than anyone could imagine, but felt inept at accomplishing any of it. And when none of those aspirations materialized, I was depressed and considered myself a failure. NONE of which God would use to describe His beloved.
I am constantly reminding us as Christians that we are not citizens here on earth, but are rather citizens of Heaven. Our role is not to sit around judging the world, but rather revealing to the earth what living in the Kingdom of Heaven is like. We are to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth. We are to reflect exactly what is going on in Heaven to the earth. So, in the Kingdom, you know how dreams become reality? You know how goals get accomplished? The one thing that fills in the gap is HOPE.
IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN 2018,
YOU MUST BE FILLED WITH EAGER EXPECTATION
Hope is “the confident expectancy that God will do what He says He will do“. If God puts a dream inside your heart, a destiny to fulfill, a calling for you to accomplish, a goal to reach, you must approach it with an eager anticipation in it being accomplished. You must have a confident expectancy that what God put in your heart WILL come to pass. This is a source of joy for us. It is a protection against discouragement, impatience, and depression. This “looking forward to with assurance” attitude is paramount to your success! It is the key that we often times miss.
“Hope deferred makes the heart sick; but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12
“But we have this hope, as an anchor for our soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19
Begin to develop this power of hope into your life. Let it permeate your every day circumstances and take the place of concern, pressure, and anxiety. Partner with God in all He has put in your heart to do, by looking with eager, confident, assuring expectation for what He will do!
What’s your WORD for the year? Why not dialogue with God about that and then eagerly and confidently look for how He will accomplish that in your life! I can promise you that if you give yourself to this new perspective, 2018 will be a successful and impactful year for you!
