Today’s Scripture is complex and prophetic, and I will not attempt to choose a side regarding all of its interpretations. Beth Moore did an incredible study on the Book of Daniel, called Daniel, and if you would like to further study these Scriptures, I would highly recommend it. Or, study for yourself Daniel 2, 7, 9, and Revelation 13.
Certainly, Jesus is forewarning His disciples about what is to come. It isn’t going to pretty. It’s going to get tough; and Jesus is readying His disciples. His warnings are good for us today.
Beware of Deception:
Many will come claiming to be the Messiah, and deceive many. Many will come and proclaim things that do not align with Truth. Many will speak and preach, and teach, and never talk about Jesus. They will speak as though he doesn’t exist. They will “deny” Him. There will be many “anti-christs“:
18 Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour. 19 They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
20 But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.21 I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth. 22 Who is the liar? It is whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a person is the antichrist—denying the Father and the Son. 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
24 As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father. 25 And this is what he promised us—eternal life.
26 I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.27 As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.” 1 John:18-27
Stand Firm in Love:
“Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of many will grow cold.” Cold Love. Lifeless. Numb. Without feeling, compassion, consideration, or warm sincerity. “But he who stands firm to the end will be saved.” (means “delivered”, not “salvation”) We must FIGHT through our fears, hurts, scars, and wounds to continue loving. Satan wickedly laughs as one by one Christ-followers begin to no longer trust or believe in love. I have been wounded…wounded beyond what I thought I could bear. I thought I would never recover. I made unholy agreements that I would NEVER love like that again. My love grew cold. Yet, God awakened my heart again to His unfathomable love for me and I could not help but begin to give it away again. Don’t let the enemy freeze your heart. Stand firm. In the end, you will be saved.
Yes. It will get bad. Yet inexpressible greatness is following right behind it. It is to this hope we cling and live in peace and joy for the days to come.
